THE POWER OF 3D MODELING: PART 2

Start

Visualizations are an integral facet of landscape design. Everyone has a different approach, from continuing to embrace the more time-intensive hand-drawn methods, while others utilize CAD paired with 3D modeling and image-editing technology. Although each of these are successful to some degree - revisions are inevitable, and the time it takes to reconstruct these illustrations in multiple software’s can be greatly reduced by fine-tuning the design in a single application.

Join us to witness the power and efficiencies gained by 3D modeling in landscape-specific BIM software and gain an understanding of how to build various features found on a proposed site while using a combination of site planning tools and commonly used 3D modeling processes. Communication is essential for the success of any project, and the mention of “revisions” shouldn’t cause fear of going over budget.

HOW TO APPLY 3D MODELING FOR BEGINNERS

Start

When it’s time to transform an idea into a digital 3D form, it all comes down to understanding the tools you use. There are multiple ways to achieve the same shape, so best practices with 3D modeling tools vary based on your design intent, skill level, and the complexity of your project. Join Rob Hollis, RA, as he explores the various toolsets and features that enable custom modeling for a variety of project types. This beginner session will focus on general navigation, solid modeling, and basic editing behaviors in Vectorworks.

3D MODELING ENHANCEMENTS

Start

The updates to Vectorworks’ 3D modeling can’t be beat. Improvements to the Push/Pull tool now support additional drawing tools like the Line tool, which creates a streamlined method to split the face of a solid and manipulate the geometry. Other modeling enhancements include simplification of editing solids created with fillet, chamfer, shell solid, and more. Rather than navigating through layers of history, you can simply highlight a face or edge for direct editing and speed through your 3D modeling process.

HISTORY BASED MODELING

Start

The 3D solids modeling commands in Vectorworks are now much more flexible and intuitive, supporting nearly endless permutations and combinations — both in the sequence of creating an object, as well as in modifying specific steps later in the design process. When you need to change something, there’s no need to “start again,” which enables more natural and iterative modeling.
