Join David Farley, theatre and live event set designer as he shows us how he uses Vectorworks 3D models to create 3D prints to help visualise his projects. He will take us through some of his work, including 1:25 lights, furniture, full scale prop and costume elements.
Learning Objectives
Visualizations are an integral facet of landscape design. Everyone has a different approach, from continuing to embrace the more time-intensive hand-drawn methods, while others utilize CAD paired with 3D modeling and image-editing technology. Although each of these are successful to some degree - revisions are inevitable, and the time it takes to reconstruct these illustrations in multiple software’s can be greatly reduced by fine-tuning the design in a single application.
Join us to witness the power and efficiencies gained by 3D modeling in landscape-specific BIM software and gain an understanding of how to build various features found on a proposed site while using a combination of site planning tools and commonly used
3D modeling processes. Communication is essential for the success of any project, and the mention of “revisions” shouldn’t cause fear of going over budget.

Celebrate the start of a new year with a spring cleaning on bloated files. We will share tips and tricks to slim down giant files, clean up your workspace, and minimize file size.
Learning Objectives
In this course, you will be introduced to core modeling concepts in Vectorworks software. Starting with key 2D modeling techniques, you will learn how to create and manipulate 2D forms. Then, you will explore fundamental 3D modeling workflows.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
When it’s time to transform an idea into a digital 3D form, it all comes down to understanding the tools you use. There are multiple ways to achieve the same shape, so best practices with 3D modeling tools vary based on your design intent, skill level, and the complexity of your project. Join Rob Hollis, RA, as he explores the various toolsets and features that enable custom modeling for a variety of project types. This beginner session will focus on general navigation, solid modeling, and basic editing behaviors in Vectorworks.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
This guide and tutorial will introduce you to key concepts of Vectorworks and how you can gain efficiency by adopting Vectorworks for your complete project cycle. The exercises in the tutorial are designed to help you understand the structure and behavior of Vectorworks to make the transition from Rhino to Vectorworks easier and manageable.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Join Paul Beaty-Pownall, managing director at bpr architects, as he explains how his office leverages 3D modeling to provide information at each stage of the design process. Attendees will explore this process through a case study example of proposals for a new train station at West Hampstead in London. Attendees will also learn how to structure a model to manage design changes and how to make the best use of the 3D environment to explore better design solutions.
To receive 1 AIA LU, 0.75 AIBC CORE LUs, 1.0 AAA STRUCTURED LH, and 1 AANB, ALBNL, NSAA CORE LEARNING CREDIT, please make sure to login and complete the quiz after watching our webinar.
Learning Objectives
Ever wonder about 3D modeling and the benefits it can provide for designers? Join Peter Kerwin, Parasolid product manager, and Mark Doubleday, stage lighting designer, in the latest webinar on 3D modeling through Vectorworks software. Kerwin will begin by discussing the importance of 3D modeling and the technology integrated into the Vectorworks 3D modeling engine. Doubleday will follow by describing some of the 3D modeling processes he used on a recent production of “Macbeth,” and how it helped him control reflected light from the glass and steel set.
Learning Objectives
The updates to Vectorworks’ 3D modeling can’t be beat. Improvements to the Push/Pull tool now support additional drawing tools like the Line tool, which creates a streamlined method to split the face of a solid and manipulate the geometry. Other modeling enhancements include simplification of editing solids created with fillet, chamfer, shell solid, and more. Rather than navigating through layers of history, you can simply highlight a face or edge for direct editing and speed through your 3D modeling process.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
The Duplicate Array tool has been enhanced to work in a 3D view, making it easier to use. The modes available with the Move by Points tool have also been updated to allow a live preview of your operation when using the tool. This enhancement stays true to Vectorworks’ direct modeling environment, giving you real-time feedback as you design.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
The 3D solids modeling commands in Vectorworks are now much more flexible and intuitive, supporting nearly endless permutations and combinations — both in the sequence of creating an object, as well as in modifying specific steps later in the design process. When you need to change something, there’s no need to “start again,” which enables more natural and iterative modeling.

When it’s time to transform an idea into a digital 3D form, it all comes down to understanding the tools that you use. There are multiple ways to achieve the same shape, so determining best practices with 3D modeling tools can vary based on your design intent, skill level, and the complexity of your project.
