Layer Import Referencing

Layer referencing takes a ‘live’ copy of selected design layers from another Vectorworks file. As with Design Layer Viewports this is really useful in a multi user environment as several people can work on a project at once.

The main advantage (or disadvantage!) of layer referencing is it brings in all layers, classes and objects as references but they are displayed to you as if they were in the current file (filling up your navigation and Resource Browser palettes). This makes it easier to control visibilities and such, in multiple references, but does mean your end files are full of all the clutter from every file lower in the reference tree.

If using Layer Referencing, organisation and discipline within the Vectorworks drawings are even more essential.

Before starting this exercise, you will need a source file with layers, classes and objects as well as a target file. Both files need to be saved. Make sure the Layers have different names in each file.
