The relationship between Starbucks and Vectorworks started in 2017, when a team of 25 designers migrated from Autodesk. With this change, the Europe, Middle East and Africa design team transformed the way the business designs and opens cafés all around EMEA.
To this day, no two Starbucks stores are the same. Their designers have the freedom to create bespoke, unique spaces, beautifully designed and specifically tailored to their communities. With extremely ambitious year-to-year growth plans, the task to open stores around EMEA wouldn’t be possible without Vectorworks, the one and only software their in-house team uses.
From test fits to renders, tender packs, technical drawings & site specifications, they heavily rely on the different functions the software provides to create world class designs efficiently. Led by an ambitious business growth agenda, they’re excited to share the different processes and steps they take to ensure a rapid turnaround of designs in a fast-paced industry.
CASE STUDY: UNDERSTANDING YOUR IMPACTS; EMBODIED CARBON AND VECTORWORKS
Presenter: Colin Davis | Director, Studio Partington
Colin will present on how Studio Partington are using Vectorworks to assess the embodied carbon impacts of their work. The presentation will focus on Studio Partington’s project to designing new facade
upgrades to the iconic Crescent House at the Golden Lane Estate (Original architects Chamberlain, Powell & Bon, Grade II* Listed).
The project aims to balance retaining the valuable historic fabric of the building with making real measurable,
achievable building fabric upgrades to reduce energy consumption and help residents with fuel poverty issues. The project has assessed both the operation carbon improvements and the embodied carbon impacts of a number of possible solutions. Studio
Partington’s BIM models used the Vectorworks Embodied Carbon Calculator to provide detailed calculations of CO2E that could be used in discussions with Planners, Residents, Historic England and other stakeholders. These calculations will now be tested
in a Pilot Project due to start this Autumn.
Lisa McRavey and Iain Lyon are Senior Landscape Architects with independent Scottish Landscape Architecture studio RaeburnFarquharBowen. The practice embraces sustainable design, with particular expertise in green infrastructure and community co-design – designing for both people and nature. This presentation follows on from their 2020 Design Day presentation, ‘Design with Nature, Design with Data’, and looks at how data-rich Vectorworks projects can be used to communicate information in different ways. It explores data communication with design team colleagues throughout the life of a project, and discusses the possibilities of Vectorworks as a working tool to help inform the design process. It also considers innovative methods of publicly sharing finalised designs in dynamic and interactive ways, and demonstrates how these Vectorworks projects can be used to generate dynamic output far richer than static drawings - including through the use of partnership software such as ArcGIS and TwinMotion.

Presenter: Niall Williams | Director, ND Landscape Architects
Niall will be talking about his background, how and why the podcast came to be and what we can learn from the guest speakers, providing an overview of key points raised and how the narratives on specific topics can be woven together. New policies such
as Biodiversity Net Gain, Water & Nutrient Neutrality, are all leading to a great importance and focus on environmental deliverables. Why are these so important, and where may they fall short? How can other policies and strategies support them?
This session will also touch on other issues/ opportunities which lay ahead, leading to better environmental outcomes.
